There is something about October that makes Casper feel just a little different. The evenings come earlier, the air starts to feel cooler, pumpkins begin appearing on porches, and suddenly a trip downtown can turn into an unexpected search for something spooky.

Halloween may still be a few weeks away, but Casper is already getting into the spirit of the season. Across downtown, local businesses, community organizations, and family-friendly attractions are creating reasons to get out, explore, dress up, make something, and enjoy the fun side of October.

One of the earliest signs of spooky season is happening at The Dreadful Bookshop, where a miniature world of Halloween creativity is coming together during the Mini Spooky Bookshelf Workshop. The evening gives participants a chance to create their own tiny bookshelf, complete with miniature books and spooky little details. It is the kind of activity that fits perfectly into October: creative, cozy, a little eerie, and designed to make something you can take home and enjoy long after Halloween is over.

But the spooky fun isn't staying inside one shop.

Starting October 10, downtown Casper will become the setting for the second annual Great October Ghost Hunt, giving families and visitors a new reason to explore local businesses throughout the month. Participants can pick up a ghost-hunt passport at The Dreadful Bookshop and then visit participating businesses in search of hidden crocheted ghosts.

When a ghost is discovered, participants can show it to the business and receive a stamp in their passport. Every stamp becomes another entry toward the Grand Ghost Hunters Prize, turning what could simply be a walk through downtown into a month-long community adventure. READ MORE
